Choosing Good Color Schemes by fantasy-alive Choosing Good Color Schemes by fantasy-alive
This is my first tutorial. I know sometimes when I’m doing a web design or journal skin the coding is the easy part. The hardest part is getting past that first step of figuring out exactly what you want to do. One of the main things that inspires me and helps me over the hump is color schemes.

I plan on doing a series of tutorials about how to be inspired to do a design. Please let me know if this is helpful. Your comments are always welcome.

Very interesting! your right, I tried using 6 colors in the design of my website but it was too colorful, 4 to 5 colors are the best choice.

keep it up :)

i like the suggestion of picking off-black and/or off-white instead of just plain black and white!

This is very interesting and useful. Do you think that the same principle can be used in a ilustration? I usually have problems choosing colors, specially in backgrounds. I tend to use only tones from same colors :(
And yes, more tutorials about this would be wonderful

I think it could apply to illustrations too. Usually when I'm doing illustration work, color schemes come in handy.

I don't understand how exactly to pick these colors.

I hate having to guess which one is best, like 50 times each one.

The way that I figure out color schemes alot of time is just feel and playing around with them. Sometimes I will choose five colors and see that they don't work as well as I thought, and I will alter them. Another really easy way to pick the colors is to go on the sites I mentioned in the tutorial and they have alot of great ideas.

I really appreciate it. :) Most of time starting with a color scheme helps me to get past that first step...and for me the first step is always the hardest.

Oh yeah, though I am still thinking of how to make my own CSS journal. I just don't know how to put down the images into CSS code, I do have Dreamweaver that's supposed to be the top CSS coder. But mainly for websites.

Yeah, Dreamweaver is a good program but relying on it to code for you sometimes leads to trouble. If you have any particular questions feel free to note me. Also check out #eCSSited because they have a lot of wonderful tutorials about coding for Journal Skins, which is a bit different than just coding a website.

Yeah, the tutorials there are really good and helpful. Dreamweaver is a great tool but all you really need is a text editor though I do prefer to use Dreamweaver due to the live preview feature.
